Video: Irish rider's very nervous moment descending at speed

Too close for comfort but this Irish rider handled is “brown trousers moment” very well indeed.

 

There is nothing better than going abroad cycling, especially for some warm weather miles and one of our readers has recently returned from a cycling trip to Spain.

He recorded the clip below and posted it on his Facebook page, referring to it as his “brown trousers moment”.

He was descending on an unfamiliar road and encountered a ‘Yield’ sign when he wasn’t expecting it.

He found traffic whipping across his path and while he was going at a fair clip, he managed to slow down in time.

A less experienced or more panicked rider would have instinctively hit the brakes hard and gone over the handlers or their front wheel would have gone from under them.

But our man stayed calm and emerged unscathed from this high speed nervous moment.

There’s nothing wrong with descending at speed – within reason. But it’s true what they say; always expect the unexpected.

And when you’re on roads that are knew to you or that you don’t know very well or simply haven’t been on for a while it’s best to take a cautious approach – as our reader encountering a yield sign and traffic mid descent reveals!
