A visibly upset Bernie D'Arcy shared an emotional appeal for drivers to take more care around cyclists after suffering a nasty shock while riding in Co Wicklow

Any cyclist who has ridden a decent number of miles - indeed any number of miles - will know what Bernie A D'Arcy was feeling in this video, below, that she posted on Twitter.

The Wicklow woman, who is a well known public speaker on human rights and domestic violence who has won awards for her work, said was almost killed by a close-pass driver while she was out on her bike near Ashford, Co Wikclow.

She pulled into the side of the road and bravely captured her upset in the moment in this video; a short clip that really hammers home the impact of a bad close pass, especially involving a driver in a large or speeding vehicle.

Wearing high visibility kit, with the close-pass safety logo on her jersey, and with a helmet on, Bernie said the road safety laws were simply not being enforced, adding it was putting cyclists' lives in real danger.
