The famed Koppenberg climb was so muddy when the pros did their recon rides today, Friday, they had to walk up it, as this video reveals.
The Koppenberg may be just one of 18 bergs the pro riders will face during Sunday’s Tour of Flanders, but it is very testing.
The cobbled ramp comes after 210km, with just 45km remainin to the finish.
And if its anything like as muddy as it was on Friday when many of the teams rode parts of the course (video below) it will be very tricky.
Astana posted a video, below, commenting on how muddy the climb was when its riders went to have a look on Friday.
Members of the team, and those from Team Sky, walked up parts of it.
And while they may have be held up by congestion – with tourists and cycling fans gathered to see the stars – one would have expected them to ride up the ascent they were there to try out.
Have a look at the clip and the set of photos below, they’ll whet your appetite for Sunday’s contest.
