This was about as good as it got for this idiot trying to steal a bike from right outside this police station. An officer on duty simply had to walk out the front door and catch him in the act. Never underestimate the capacity for stupidity...
A police force in the United States has released this CCTV footage of an attempted bike theft outside one of its stations.
The idiot involved moved in with bolt cutters to take the locked bike; under the watchful eye of the station CCTV.
In fact he was so far into police territory that 'Gladstone Police' was written on a window just feet away.
However, that didn't stop our hero. As soon as he'd taken his cutters from his bag, a police officer walked out the station door and arrested him

The 26-year-old suspect, a local man from the Oregon area Gladstone Police Department covers, has since been charged in relation to the incident.
He was immediately arrested when Sgt Matt Okerman came out of the building and disturbed his crude efforts.
“It’s dumb, you know,” Sgt Carl Bell of Gladstone Police Department told ABC News.
“I have not actually seen something that blatant because the officers were inside watching on video camera. The camera that you see is actually in our office.

“People stealing bikes isn’t rare. It’s just where he did it at this time kind of caught everyone off guard; kind of made us chuckle a little bit, you know.”
While the arresting officer had his Taser stun gun drawn he did not use it as the suspect followed police instructions once he knew he’d been caught.
The incident took place on December 27th and the suspect has been charged with theft, criminal mischief and being a felon in possession of weapons.
He appeared in court the following day in relation to the charges but was granted bail. Furthermore, he must come before the courts again at a later date when the crime will be dealt with.
Local media reports stated the suspect for the attempted theft had previously been charged with a drugs offence.

The officer who had been watching the incident on CCTV in his office strolled out the front door and made the arrest.
