With the field splitting in the crosswinds, several crashes and a testing uphill finish, there was plenty of drama on stage 4 of the UAE Tour yesterday.
Ireland's Dan Martin (UAE Team Emirates) remains 6th overall at UAE Tour after yesterday's drama-packed stage 4.
Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Soudal) claimed victory atop the final climb of the day.
Martin was among a group just five seconds back; the front of the field splitting a little in the final push to the line.
Race leader Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) claimed 3rd on the stage. He was two seconds behind the winner and three ahead of most of his GC rivals, including Martin.
The Irish cyclist at one point found himself in the third group on the road after the field split in the crosswinds.
Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) wanted Roglic's team to assist on the front in driving on the bunch.
But when they declined to do so, the group Martin was in, with Ewan and Richie Porte (Trek-Segafredo), got back on; Valverde not shy in showing his annoyance.
