We've all been bombarded by slick marketing campaigns over the years that extreme injury awaits if we go outside without wearing an expensive bike helmet.
But there's been surprisingly little about the dangers of wearing headphones.
This clip really sums up how things can go very wrong very quickly when we're not using our hearing to monitor our environment.
The clip was recorded in the US recently, though there were no further details from LiveLeak where it appeared.

The female cyclist who posted it writes: "Commuting home on 5/12/2016, when a runner wearing headphones decides to randomly turn left and cross the path. I say (not loud enough) "On your left", he can't hear me, then BOOM."
With the jogger changing direction suddenly into the path of the woman on the bike, both go flying.
And the groans that can clearly be heard on the film suggest much pain was involved.
The cyclist finishes with the following observation: “Don’t be a douche like this guy. If you are running with headphones on, realize that you need to be extra aware. Especially aware when making random fucking turns.”
It sounds like very good advice for cyclists too; if you have headphones on you better ramp up the rest of your senses because you're going to need them!
