Gardai say they have a suspect for the theft of a bike that was captured on CCTV and during which the intruder received a call on his phone.
The hapless burglar had forgotten to turn off the phone and hurriedly silenced it when it rang as he crept around the victim's back garden.
He had jumped over the back wall of the house and found two bikes, one of which he stole.
Victim Tom McEnaney made a complaint to the Garda and having remained in contact with them with plenty of calls and emails his video (below) was featured on RTE's Crimecall.
He then waited six months for any updates on his case and when there were none he published the footage of the theft on social media.
He has now offered an update on the situation, saying he contacted the gardai last week to let them know he was going on Prime Time on RTE tomorrow night to discuss burglaries.
Mr McEnaney added the gardai immediately got back to him and informed him a suspect had been identified. And while no charges have yet been pressed, they were "pending".
When the original footage was published many people commented on the burglar's stupidity at leaving his phone on during a crime, with others adding he deserved a Darwin award he was so "dumb".
