This cyclist got caught with something of a double whammy on his way home from work in Dublin traffic.
We're used to high-speed incidents - be they close passes or near misses - making the news. But sometimes it's the low speed incidents that can be more serious.
A fall at low speed, for example, can do just as much damage to the body as a high speed spill.
Here's an example of an incident which, by the sounds of things, gave this cyclist in Dublin a fright as he cycled home from work.
The driver of the car in question comes out of a side street onto the main road and then immediately turns left, with their indicator on, to get fuel.
The only trouble was that the cyclist recording the clip was literally in front of the driver's nose at the time.
There seems to have been no injury or damage to the bike reported. And it's a perfect example of how a couple of seconds consideration by the driver could have avoided this incident.
It took place on the Greenhills Road in Tallaght in west Dublin. And it's pretty clear that even when darkness is not an issue, cyclists are in danger from vehicles being moved around in traffic like this.
Quite clearly this is not the cyclist's fault. Indeed, but for him slowing down this could have been worse. This is a lack of consideration or awareness on the part of the driver.
However, it is a reminder of the need to be well lit when cycling in traffic now that the dark evenings are approaching.
If this kind of incident can happen in daylight, a cyclist will have no chance when it's dark unless we're well lit-up.
Just to mention again; we're not victim blaming here. But this is a cycling site so our safety advice is addressed to cyclists.
Here's the video. Crazy driving, isn't it? pic.twitter.com/jphs1o16fn
