Video: Driver threatens to kill cyclists; turns out he owns cafes where they stop

One of the craziest driver melt downs we've ever seen. But it turns out the driver owns a chain of cafés used by lots of clubs for coffee stops - they used to stop there anyway!

The clip below depicts one of the craziest melt downs we've ever seen by a driver. The only thing working on this guy's favour is that it didn't turn physical.

But with his fists clenched, he makes it very clear he would have attacked the rider with the camera had there not been witnesses at the scene.

He is irate his Land Rover has been touched and at the fact the cyclists are not using the cycle lane on the pavement on the opposite side of the road.

He seems to be oblivious to the fact he's being recorded. The incident took place on March 14th in Roehampton, South West London.

The cyclist claims the driver's Land Rover wing mirror clipped him he has so close and when he remonstrated with the driver pulled in and an extreme verbal exchange took place.

The driver was yesterday fined £90 for his disorder, with the fine issued to him when he went to Putney police station, without any party being required to go to court.

It has emerged the driver is 50-year-old father of two Jason Wells who owns the Brew Café chain in south west London, which is popular with cyclists.

No content with getting into a huge row with one cyclist, Wells gets into a dispute with passing riders who try to calm the situation. At one point while insisting to them they should use the cycle lane, he steps up onto the lane and forces a rider using it to stop.

He has cafés in Clapham, Putney, Wandsworth and Wimbledon and plans to open more.

However, he faces a boycott from bike riders in the area and has already prompted a backlash on social media against his upmarket cafés.

The cyclist has declined to be identified but has said he was disappointed by some of his own actions.

Wells, after initially declining to comment through a public relations agency or to confirm it was him in the film, has now issued an apology.

Wells, as a master butcher by training, said: “I would like to apologise for any offence caused.

"My behaviour was unacceptable and regardless of the situation, I shouldn’t react like that.

“I fully appreciate that cyclists have as much right to the road as any other road users.”
