Video: Driver ranting at cyclist over bike lane corrected by cops

The police in London were quick to jump in when a driver ranted at a cyclist over not using a cycle lane and then shared the video he had shot on social media

We may have had a few issues in Ireland of late with the Garda’s messaging around cyclists, but in Britain some of the police forces are taking a different approach.

The video below was shot by a driver while ranting at a
cyclist who wasn’t using a new cycle lane.

He posted it on social media under the heading “£42
million well spent, indeed” and calling the cyclist a “twat”. The clip was then
shared on the Spotted Enfield Facebook page.

However police in the local area – Enfield, London – took
to social media themselves. They pointed out it was not compulsory for cyclists
to use cycle lanes.

The police also made it clear the driver’s behaviour was
one of road rage and that such incidents would be investigated if there was
evidence.

“Sadly it has come (to our) attention that there were two road rage incidents yesterday evening on Green Lanes,” Winchmore Hill Police said of the incident in the video below and a second one.

“In both incidents motorists laid into cyclists for not
being in the cycle lane. One you can view in Spotted Enfield.

“Kudos to the cyclist for trying his best to ignore the
driver’s abuse, In the second incident a bus driver laid on his horn for a very
long time behind the lady riding in front.

“Please think of the cycle lanes as a safe space for
insecure cyclists and children. Not ALL cyclists will use them all the time and
that is their right.”

When others chipped into the conversation, the police replied
to them and shared further thoughts from a cycling perspective.
