This on-board footage record on an Irish club's training spin shows a motorist just about missing a high speed head-on smash with oncoming vehicles moments after overtaking the riders.
Usually when cyclists share videos highlighting what they believe are near misses, it involves a vehicle passing them too close at speed.
But in this clip the near miss is car-on-car.
The clip was recorded at the weekend by John Ruddy when he was out for a group ride in Co Kildare with friends from Naas Cycling Club.
They were riding along the Kildare to Nurney road when a white UK-registered Mercedes car passed them.
The driver overtook the riders on a broken white line and also gave them a reasonable amount of space, unlike other clips we’ve seen of late.
The only problem was the proximity of the oncoming traffic.
Two other vehicles were coming the other way, with the lead one of those cars clearly seeing the danger and coming to what looks like a complete halt or close to it in order to avoid disaster.
That precaution just about gave the driver of the Merc, who braked hard himself, time to get clear of the riders he’d just overtaken and get back onto his own side of the road before reaching the other vehicles.
Have a look and see what you think; this looks very close indeed to us.
