Video: Dopey motorist struggling with concept of segregated cycle lane

You campaign for years and years for a new segregated cycle lane away from the traffic, and when one opens this happens...

 

Regarded as the safest cycling infrastructure by many, the segregated cycle lane is designed to take cycles out of the road space we currently share with vehicles.

The idea is that cycling along in our own lane that we share only with other cyclists, we'll be much safer. Unfortunately not everyone understands the concept it seems.

When this lane opened in London recently, the motorists in the clip below drove his car up the lane, apparently thinking it was a stretch of road.

Still, at least the cycle lane was wide enough and of sufficient quality to be confused for a new road; it wouldn’t happen in Ireland.
