Video: Degenkolb loses plot with Belgian rival at World Champs

John Degenkolb was not happy at all about being chased down by a Belgian rival in Doha and wasn't afraid to show it despite the TV cameras looking on.

With a group up the road in the elite men's race at the World Championships in Doha earlier today, German John Degenkolb tried several times to go clear from the bunch in pursuit.

However, the Belgian team had other ideas and was determined not to let him clear.

Degenkolb, usually quite a chilled out rider, lost the plot.

When he looked behind and saw the Belgians chasing again and preventing anyone else going clear to join him he decided to take action.

He sat up and took his water bottle from its cage and when the bunch rolled up to him he squirted one of the Belgians, Jens Debusschere, in the face in what were farcical scenes.

Both riders were in the bunch around two minutes behind the leading group of 26 with approximately 60km remaining in the race.

It was eventually won by Peter Sagan (Slovakia) from Mark Cavendish (Great Britain) and Tom Boonen (Belgium).
