Dan Martin gets of his bike and is crippled with back pain. He then can't even walk properly. You’d really feel for him watching this.
Dan Martin crippled with back pain after Tour stage
Dan Martin put in another great ride at the Tour de France today; taking 6th on stage 13.
He made a move out of the select group towards the end of the day to try and limit his general classification time loss to those in the breakaway.
Unfortunately Mikel Landa (Team Sky) was up the road 1:39 ahead of Martin at the finish.
And so Landa jumped into 5th place overall. Dan Martin has been pushed down one place to 6th as a result.
But one look at Martin after the stage shows just how deep he is digging on this race.
He crashed hard last Sunday in the same spill that saw Richie Porte (BMC Racing) leave the race. And Martin has had a severe back injury since then.
It cost him a shot at sprinting for the stage win yesterday. And today the QuickStep man was practically crippled when he got off his bike.
In the clip below a TV reporter is looking for an interview with him at stage end.
But all Martin is concerned about is how, even whether, he can straighten his crippled back.
And when he does, it's with a grimace on his face. He walks the short distance to the team bus, shuffling all the way.
