Video: Cyclists survive horror crash from behind with distracted driver

The driver in the car comes from behind and simply drives through the group. Reports suggest he was distracted and reaching for something inside the car.

A Spanish actor has published video of a crash he was involved in on a charity cycle when he was hit from behind by a motorist.

Dani Rovira was riding in France with three other cyclists when an apparently distracted driver hit them from behind.

The cameras were rolling as Rovira was on a charity cycle that was being made into a documentary at the time.

The footage, below, shows the last rider in the group being take out first and then Rovira is next to be hit.

Neither of them gets any warning and are onto the bonnet of the car, which is traveling at speed, before they even realise what has happened.

Incredibly, none of the cyclists in the small group ploughed into by the motorist suffered any long term serious injury.

The charity event they were involved in aimed to raise awareness about Rett Syndrome; a postnatal neurological disorder.

At the time of the crash the riders were cycling from Barcelona to Rome over 11 stages. And at the end of the journey they were set to meet Pope Francis.

“We are still here because it wasn’t our time to go. Let’s respect one another on the roads,” Rovira said of the crash after sharing the footage yesterday.

“We only know how it happened because it was caught on camera. I was in shock that whole day, I wasn’t afraid – that came the next day when I had to get back on the bike.”
