With a long trailer at the back of this van, the danger lingers for longer than the cyclist is aware; an unpredictable factor that can be lethal. This shows it perfectly.
This video, recorded in Ireland, has been shared on social media in recent days and shows the dangers posed by trailers being towed behind vehicles.
The rider visible in the clip is one of three on the road during this incident. He is leading solo with two other riders side by side just behind; one of those recording.
From behind, a large van passes with a long trailer on the back. The lead rider moves to his right as the road surface was poor on the inside.
The van passes right at that moment; just as the driver passes the riders on the continuous white line.

Neither the wheels of the van nor of the trailer go over the line. The entire passing move takes place on one side of the road.

The pass is very tight anyway, and the move to the right by this rider makes it even tighter.
But the really frightening thing is that the threat lingers longer than you might be expecting. The trailer, obviously, also has to pass the cyclist.
It means in that split second you get a fright as a vehicle passes closes, the danger may not be gone.
