It must have been the biggest ever cycling protest in Ireland; this is just a section of the cyclists outside the office of Minister for Transport Shane Ross TD.
Following a series of cyclist fatalities and a lack of investment in cycling infrastructure, when activists called for their brothers and sisters on two wheels to turn out at a protest against Minister for Transport Shane Ross TD they couldn't have imagined the reaction they'd get.
But the rally saw an absolute staggering turn out, as the videos and photos below reveal.
A massive number of cyclists met at Merrion Square West and cycled to protest outside the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport on nearby Leeson Lane.
The protest was organised by Dublin Cycling Campaign in collaboration with Cyclist.ie in the hope Minister Ross will take notice.
The goal was to put pressure on him to allocate more funding for cycling.
The Dublin Cycling Campaign said of the €10 billion allocated for transport investment in the Capital Investment Plan for 2016-2021, active travel – including walking, cycling and other measures – is allocated just €100 million.
It means cycling is to receive approximately half of one percent of the transport pie, but the protest this evening wanted that increased towards 10 per cent.
In recent weeks news has emerged of further cutbacks in future funding for cycling projects for Dublin City Council by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
And this evening’s protest also followed a series of cycling fatalities on the roads.
Take a look at a collection of some photos and video that emerged this evening...
