This motorist drove at the cyclist; the wrong way up a one-way street, while also driving in the cycle lane in the dark.
Video cyclist gets head-on fright in Phoenix Park
The cyclist in this video was forced to dive off the road when a motorist drove towards him in Dublin’s Phoenix Park.
John Gough was on his bike travelling on the cycle lane down a one-way stretch in the park.
Cars were passing him to his left in the darkness yesterday morning. And as they did, a set of headlights came into view.
That car was coming towards him; going against the traffic on the one-way road and driving in the cycling lane.
John Gough was forced to go off road and ended up on the grass to his right as the car drove by; and one assumes into more traffic further down the road.
The stretch where this incident occurred is on Wellington Road. The bike lane is on the right and the road is very clearly marked one-way, as anyone familiar with it will know.
Gough said he was cycling in the park at 7.15am yesterday when the motorist drove towards him.
The offending driver simply kept going when Gough was forced to dive to safety.
However, thanks to his lights and a little bit of vigilance, another driver spotted him and stopped to check if he was ok.
The same road made news last year when a two-way segregated cycleway was opened only for cars to park all over it, as a video that emerged at the time demonstrated.
