Alberto Contador left a lot of skin on the road when he hit a traffic island on stage 1 of the Tour de France.
One of the big favourites to win the Tour de France, Alberto Contador has started the race with a crash on the opening stage this afternoon, Saturday.
The Spanish rider competing for Tinkoff hit a traffic island hard with just under 80km to go on the opening trek to the finish at Utah Beach.
Team Sky duo Luke Rowe and Geraint Thomas also came down but all of those who fell were quickly back on their bikes and got back in with the bunch.
The pro peloton's elder statesman Fabian Cancellara slowed the bunch at the front to ensure nobody was left behind and nobody took advantage of the fall.
