Video: Cigala angry at Mazzone brothers push in Rás Mumhan sprint

The image above shows Tom Mazzone pushing his brother Leon towards the line at the end of the third stage of the Kerry Group Rás Mumhan yesterday. Visible in the video below is Matteo Cigala making his protest known.
Yesterday’s penultimate stage of Kerry Group Rás Mumhan finished in Waterville and an epic stage unfolded with the yellow jersey changing hands.
But the fight for the other jerseys was just as intense, as the video below shows.
Tom Mazzone (Isle of Man) started the day in the green jersey on 23 points.
Paul Kennedy Newcastle West CC) was next on 15 followed by Eoin Morton (UCD-FitzCycles) on 13 and Matteo Cigala (Aqua Blue Sport Academy) on 13.
At the end of yesterday’s stage into Waterville Cigala was sprinting for fourth behind stage winner Lawrence Carpenter (Surrey League), Ronan McLaughlin (Aqua Blue Academy) and Keith Finn (Planet X Bikes).
He was battling it out with Tom and Leon Mazzone; the flying brothers from the Isle of Man.
In the images and video of the sprint, above and below, Tom reaches out to his brother in the sprint and appears to push him towards the line.
It’s not clear that the move changed the order of the sprint, but Cigala was just behind them and he was clearly annoyed.
The outcome of the gallop meant the Mazzones both scored more points than Cigala on the day.
However, the visitors from the Isle of Man are fortunate that the commissaire let this one go, considering he has been extremely active in penalising riders this weekend.
In the past, pushing like this has been deemed an unfair intervention in a sprint. And those involved have been relegated to last in their group.
Had that happened yesterday, the Mazzones would have lost their points. Cigala would have been 4th on the stage and he would have been leading the points classification starting the last stage today.
Having said that, the Mazzone brothers are clearly in great form and have added a huge amount to the racing this weekend.
