Video: Chaos reigns as riders hit by multiple cock-ups in Argentina

There have been absolutely chaotic scenes at the Vuelta a San Juan on several of the stages so far.

With four stages complete at the Vuelta a San Juan in Argentina, QuickStep have three wins in the bag.

Fernando Gaviria has won stages 1 and today's stage 4, while his team mate Tom Boonen took stage 2.

But it's the winner of yesterday's stage 3 - an 11.9km TT - Ramunas Navardauskas (Bahrain Merida) that leads overall; by 3 seconds from TT runner-up Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo).

However, while the test and the three bunch sprints to date have been entertaining, they've been a little too action-packed in places.

During today's stage, the crowds flocked out onto the finishing straight inside the last 500 metres as the bunch was in full flight; the crowd control barriers only starting with 300 metres to go.

And just after the finish line today the media was huddled right in the middle of the road apparently to get better photos; the first time we've ever seen that.

On stage 1 a section of the bunch took a wrong turn at the very end. They veered right down a road parallel to the finishing straight.

They were forced to run across grass and up onto the finishing straight, climbing out from the crowd right on the finish line.

The incident occurred when the flying peloton was nearing the finish and came to a fork in the road. Some veered left, which was correct, and some veered right and off course.

The route had been changed late in the day and many riders did not know about the change; a problem made worse when the fork in the road was very poorly marshalled.

And if that wasn't bad enough, one of the QuickStep riders hit the front today in the latter stages with his head down performing lead-out duties, only to lose his sense of direction and rocket off the side of the road.

The madness is all captured in the videos below.
