Dylan Moran may be just 8-years-old but that hasn't stopped him banging out over 40km on the bike in one sitting during the Covid19 lock-down.
Not only had he raised well over €10,000 by the time he had tackled his sponsored cycling on Friday, but he's proven such a hit that the figure keeps climbing and is now above €22,000, and counting.
He's raised the money for front line health workers as they tackle the pandemic in Ireland; all the funds raised by the Tuam school boy going to University Hospital Galway.
Dylan, who is in 2nd lass in Sylane National School, rode 42.2km in lock-down near his home last Saturday, with support from his sister Faye (7) and his dad, Declan.
While his ride was completed several days ago the money has continued to pour in and is now above €22,000 as he has left his GoFundMe page open.
“I like cycling and I’ve been doing a lot of cycling in
the last few weeks so I thought if I cycled a marathon then I could raise money
for the doctors and nurses,” he said.
His cycle was done with a 2km radius of the family home, in compliance with the Covid19 restrictions now in place.
And while local people and neighbours came on to cheer him on, they also observed the regulations by socially distancing.
