Video: Man throws bike in front of Giro riders but fan saves the day

One the stranger incidents we've seen; one man leaves a bike in the path of the Giro breakaway before another rushes into the road and takes it away

A man walked into the road on the Giro course today,
throwing a bike into the breakaway riders’ path in an apparent sabotage bid.

However, a spectator rushed forward and quickly pulled
the discarded bike from off the roadway.

It looked as though the three men up the road had seen
the incident and were going around it. But the intent was there by the saboteur
to do damage.

He waited until the commissaries car had passed and only
then walked out and dumped the bike; clearly keen not to move until the riders
were very close.

It’s unclear why he did it and when the images were
broadcast live on TV only some of the incident was visible.

However, a second clip (below) has since emerged and it
shows the man who dumped the bike did so in a calculated way and then walked
off.

There was just over 60km remaining for the breakaway at
the time. While they were never let get too far up the road, the stage was one
by one of them; Damiano Cima (Nippo-Vini Fantini-Faizane).

More to come.
