This scobe was about to get onto the Dart with the bike he'd just stolen. But another cyclist - with GoPro rolling - had followed him a long way and challenged him, giving him a right scare.

Intervening when you know a crime is being carried out is a tricky business. But if there's any best way to do it, this is probably it.

The clip has been shared by the guys at Dublin Loves Bikes; a newish bike shop in Dun Laoghaire, south Co Dublin.

Recording the footage is a cyclist who just happened to be passing the moment a bike was stolen from outside a shop in the coastal town.

He tracks the bloke on the stolen bike for a long time. And he does it perfectly; hanging back at times so he's not spotted.

The offender rides into the Dart station and is about to escape from the area with the bike. But the chaser again plays a blinder.

He hangs back a long way and watches on as the thief throws away the bike lock.

He looks on as the guy with the stolen bike is about to go through the gate to get the train. And only then does he move in.

And when he makes that move he does it at speed and assertively - which you'll see at the end of the clip.

He challenges the thief in a well-lit area; inside the station, with other people around and most likely covered by CCTV (hence the scarf up over the suspect's face).

When the would-be thief realises he's going nowhere and that the gardai may be summoned, he scarpers.

The bike was secured safe and sound. The video - and we assume the discarded lock - is with the Garda. As a result, all that's needed is to track down the owner of the bike.
