Video: Bennett and Cavendish sprint tussle was a (very) close one

Sam Bennett took his second win of the year in Italy today, crossing the line ahead of all the rest for the first time since he claimed the opening stage of the Critérium International in France in March.

And as the video below shows, he went side by side with Mark Cavendish down the finishing straight before just about getting the better of him in the lunge to the line.

Bennett spoke of his relief after the race saying after such a hard season - especially with his awful stage 1 crash at the Tour de France - he was very glad to have gotten another win under his belt.

The quality of the clip below is not great so we'll keep an eye out for better footage.

It does however capture the vast majority of the flat out sprint.

Cavendish could be seen putting his hand up in protest - half-heartedly it must be said - but he can have no complaints as both riders had lots of room and a very clear run at the line.

Let's hope Bennett can keep this up as he could take another couple of big results before the season is out!
