While Sam Bennett took another significant step in his fledgling pro career at the Tirreno-Adriatico stage race in Italy today by taking 4th, others were not having such a good race.
With less than 3km to go, there was a spill in the nervy bunch as the peloton hurtled towards a roundabout at full tilt.
German sprinter Marcel Kittel was one of those expected to challenge strongly for the stage win on what was a day for the fastman.
However, his chance of adding another victory to his growing list of triumphs evaporated when he came down as the bunch was splitting in two to snake both sides around the roundabout.
The Giant-Shimano man was clearly not impressed with his day’s work being derailed after a fast four hours and 166km in the saddle.
He got to his feet and steadied himself, only to pick up his bike and slam it on the ground as the cavalcade filed past trying to keep out of his way, and that of his flying bike.
He left it in the road and went and lay down on a grass verge – as you do – apparently nursing a sore shoulder.
Have a look at the carry on in the video below.

Kittel Tweeted this photo with the following caption: "Tried to keep our relationship going after our fight yesterday. Apologized to my sweetheart this morning!"
