As left hooks go this was bad. But is this typical of Dublin driving or a rare exception? Let us know.
It’s a perfect example of very annoying and dangerous driving that’s completely avoidable if the motorists involved were to slow down a little; the left hook.
In a nutshell, it involves motorists planning to take a left turn jumping ahead of cyclists slowing them and then cutting across them to take their turn.
It means cyclists often need to jam on to avoid hitting the back or side of the vehicles involved.
And while much effort goes into telling cyclists not to go up the inside of turning vehicles, there is very little by way of campaigns discouraging motorists for left hooking.
The example in the clip below occurred in Tallaght, west Dublin, yesterday when stickybottle reader Thejollyguitarist and a fellow cyclist were making their way home.
The driver in the clip insisted on jumping ahead of them only to then jam on to take the left turn just metres up the road.
Is this a rare example of this kind of driving or do you encounter it very often when cycling? Let us know.
