Video: Ag2r rider crashes into TV moto that led him off course

The Ag2r rider lays stricken on the road as the TV moto he hit films him. The moto had taken a wrong turn and a number of riders followed it before the moto stopped suddenly.

Here's an incident that's horrible not just because of the outcome, but because it could have been so easily avoided.

Ag2r La Mondiale rider Quentin Jauregui was riding close to the head of the peloton on the Four Days of Dunkirk on Friday when he came down in a very nasty crash.

With just under 8km remaining, the main field came to a roundabout, where they should have continued straight.

However, one of the TV motos took a right turn instead and a small number of the riders at the front simply followed the vehicle.

The moto driver soon realised his mistake and pulled into the side of the road.

The moto made a sharp movement into the side of the road, in an apparent bid to get off the road and onto the margin as quickly as possible.

But as he was moving across the lane, one of the following riders Jauregui rode straight into him, obviously not expecting a vehicle to be moving across his path.

He is clearly seen in some distress in the clip below as the TV moto continues to film him. But he managed to remount and finish the race.

He came home in last place and10:20 down on winner Bryan Coquard (Direct Energie) after 1174km from Béthune to Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise.

Jauregui suffered injuries to his arm, but nothing that won’t heal up quickly.

It must be said that while the moto went off course first, only a handful of riders followed it.

But the moto’s sharp movement across the road when the driver realised his mistake was most ill advised and is what did for the rider.
