Cycling Ireland has name a very strong Irish junior national team for Dornan Rás Mumhan in Kerry and Cork over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
Indeed the strength in depth in the junior ranks at present, and the sheer number of riders competing with European teams and being exposed to a high standard of racing, has created a selectors' headache.
Two of those selected - Seth Dunwoody and Sam Coleman - have performed very strongly abroad already this season, and won senior races at home.
And the other four riders given the nod are also capable of doing damage this Easter, in terms of chasing their own results, given the chance, or working for their team mates.
The full team is:
- Josh Callaly Lucan Cycling Road Club
- Sam Coleman AS Villemur U19
- Seth Dunwoody Cannibal Victorious U19 Development Team
- Joseph Mullen Zappi Racing Team
- Philip O'Connor Dungarvan Cycling Club
- Conor Prendergast Van Mossel Heist Cycling Team
Martin O'Loughlin will manage team for the race on the weekend of March 29th to April 1st and said he is confident the team can challenge for honours against the top senior riders in the country.
"Selecting this year's team was no easy feat, given the remarkable depth of talent within our junior ranks," he said. "The pool of talented riders showcased their prowess and dedication, making the selection process extremely challenging.
"However, after careful consideration, we are proud to unveil a line-up that represents the best of Irish junior cycling"
Michael Black, Cycling Ireland's national development coach, said selecting riders for a national team would help them to develop for domestic and international events.
"This year's selection reflects this ethos, with a mix of first and second-year juniors who have demonstrated exceptional potential and commitment to the sport," he said.
