Nathan Van Hooydonck loses his temper with Shimano neutral service at Baloise Belgium Tour
Nathan Van Hooydonck has lost his temper at Baloise Belgium Tour after neutral service refused to give him a spare wheel when he needed it.
The CCC Team rider is competing in the race with the
Belgian national team as his trade team is not riding.
However, when he pulled in today with about 18km
remaining and took out his punctured back wheel things turned nasty.
One video (second of two below) appears to show Nathan Van
Hooydonck throwing his back wheel in the direction of the neutral service
workers when they stop to service him.
Once the wheel is thrown Shimano neutral service then
refuses to give him the spare wheel they have readied for him.
Van Hooydonck protested angrily, trying to grab the wheel
and even chasing the neutral service mechanic for a few paces.
But still no wheel was given to him. He then went out
into the road in an apparent bid to wave down others who might help him.
In the end he lost time; finishing in 62nd place some
1:58 down on lone winner Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-Quick Step).
Teenage star Evenepoel was taking his first win since
jumping from the junior ranks last season into WorldTour level this year.
He was 42 seconds ahead of a group of 28 riders; his team
mate Fabio Jakobsen winning the sprint for 2nd. Evenepoel now leads overall by
51 seconds from Jakobsen.
