This video shows the white van smash through the gates of the closing railway level crossing. And a few seconds later a cyclist follows, despite the junction being readied for an approaching train.
Van smashes through Galway railway crossing gates
Irish Rail has released a video of this railway crossing incident urging people not to follow the example of the van driver or cyclist in the clip.
The incident occurred on Monday at round 7.30pm in Co Galway.
As is clear from the video, the gates were either closed or closing at the time. A white van approaches the crossing; the driver deciding to smash through the gates.
Incredibly, a cyclist then appears on screen a few seconds later. And rather than stop, in the event the approaching train might take him out; he saunters through the crossing on his bike.
The clip was recorded at a crossing in Kiltartan on the N18 road from Ennis to Galway. Local gardai are trying to track down the van driver.
Interestingly, when sharing the clip online Irish Rail describes the driver as a ‘WhiteVanMan. The more pejorative term of #CrazyCyclist is reserved for the bike rider.
