‘Ulster Cyclocross Series’ countdown underway; two races for expected large field

Ulster Cyclocross Series

The 'Ulster Cyclocross Series' gets underway at Lurgan Park this weekend, with the organisers Apollo CT putting on two senior races in order to accommodate all standards and in anticipation of a high turnout.

The move to put on A and B races for all seven fixtures in the series follows a similar move last year and to date this season by Team WORC in their organisation of the "Fixx Supercross Series" in Dublin.

The Ulster season opener unfolds on Sunday at the Co Armagh venue. Riders will be hoping for better conditions than last year, when very heavy rain made for a mud bath from which former national champion and Rás stage winner Roger Aiken emerged victorious.

Sunday's race is the first in a seven-part series this year which will see riders kept busy right up until the final round on December 6th.

The A races will be for senior men and women, junior men and women and veteran riders. The B races are intended for beginners and riders who have regularly finished in the bottom third of races in recent seasons. The winner of the B race will automatically be upgraded to the A races for subsequent rounds of the series.

There are also support races being put on and in Lurgan Park this Sunday there will be events for U8, U10, U12 riders and an MTB support race for U14 & U16 riders
