Teams from UCD CC and Lakeside Wheelers in Mullingar have just departed for India for an 11-day racing trip during which they will ride the Tour of India against international opposition such as the Astana Continental team.
The two Irish teams will ride the three-day Tour of India in Mumbai, Kashmir and Delhi.
While the event is billed as a three-day it is effectively a series of three one-day races.
The race in Mumbai unfolds through the city and coastline while the race in Kashmir is at an altitude of 2,700m in the Himalayas. The Delhi event is 140km and takes place on the city’s new F1 motor racing track.
David McQuaid, a former UCD student and member of the club, has secured the invite for the team.
The UCD team is Con Collis, Ciaran O’Conluain, Ian Richardson and Barrick Parker, with Jason O Callaghan travelling in a managerial capacity.
Lining up for Lakeside Wheelers in India is club member Johnny Murray and guests Dan Clifford (DID Dunboyne) and Chris Reilly (Bohermeen). The support and management crew is Shay O’Toole and Mick Reynolds
The races take place on December 2nd, 4th and 9th.
The field is made up of many national teams, including Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. There is also a Continental team from Germany and the Astana Continental squad.
