Irish U23 team for Tour of Flanders Nations Cup
Cycling Ireland has named an U23 men’s team for the Tour of Flanders Nations Cup race tomorrow.
The Tour of Flanders team has a familiar look to it. The same riders that rode Gent Wevelgem, bar Jake Gray coming in for Adam Stenson, are picked.
Holdsworth Pro Cycling men, Conn McDunphy and Dermot Trulock, are both selected.
And joining them are Daire Feeley (Monaco Union Cycliste), Darragh O’Mahony (Nogent-sur-Oise), Jake Gray (VC Toucy) and Matthew Teggart (Team Wiggins).
Matt Teggart and Daire Feeley made the front group at Gent Wevelgem the weekend before last.
Conn McDunphy would only lose contact with the lead group on the final climb; finishing 1:56 down. Adam Stenson was the only non finisher, a crash wiping out his effort.
Gray comes into the team for the Tour of Flanders having ridden for Ireland both at junior and U23 level in the past.
McDunphy and Trulock rode on the Ireland team at Rás Mumhan last weekend. They finished 5th and 6th overall.
As well as being among a small group of riders who animated the race, McDunphy also won the young rider classification.
Teggart has ridden the Le Triptyque des Monts et Chateaux (2.2U) four-stage race with Team Wiggins since his Gent Wevelgem appearance. And that should stand him in good stead for tomorrow.
The Irish team will ride a race it won last year; Eddie Dunbar storming away solo to memorable victory.
He has since progressed to ProContinental level with Aqua Blue Sport.
