Two cyclists have been hospitalised as a result of serious crashes in Dublin over the past 24 hours.
One of the incidents occurred in Newcastle, Co Dublin, while the other happened in the south inner city.
The first crash occurred on the junction of Sussex Rd and Leeson St in the south inner city at about 5.30pm yesterday.
A cyclist and driver in a car crashed, with the cyclist taken to hospital and the roads closed for a period.
The second incident took place about 40 minutes later, just after 6pm, in Lucan, Co Dublin.
A cyclist in his 60s was seriously injured when he was
involved in a crash with a truck driven by a man.
That collision occurred on the Newcastle Rd, with the
emergency services attending and the road around the scene closed for a long
period.
The cyclist was taken from the scene by ambulance to
Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.
“This was a RTC
between a truck and pedal cyclist. The male pedal cyclist (early 60s) received
non-life threatening injuries,” the Garda said.
“He was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown. The
driver of the truck was uninjured.”
It is understood that the cyclist injured in the south inner city crash was also not injured in a way that threatened his life.
