Two Irish riders signed by McQuaid’s new Trinity Racing road team

We already knew Ben Healy was signed by Trinity Racing but another Irish international, Finley Newmark (above), has now also been confirmed as a team rider for the 2020 season

Ben Healy and Finley Newmark are both included in the first line-up of Andrew McQuaid’s Trinity Racing road team.

The squad has already been riding on the international cyclocross scene for the past two years, with Tom Pidcock its biggest name.

Now Pidcock and ten other riders have been brought together to ride on the road in the year ahead.

The team will also take in some gravel and MTB races, while continuing in cyclocross mode through the cyclocross season.

But its main focus in the months ahead will be on international road racing.

While team management has decided not to apply for a UCI licence, the signs are the squad will have no issues with securing invites to major races.

Trinity Racing has already secured an invite to the Baby Giro; a development that looks like great news for Irish riders Newmark and Healy.

Newmark was a junior last year and represented Ireland through the season while also racing with his trade team in Europe.

Healy is a year ahead in that he rode his first season as an U23 last year, when he won Rás Mumhan and a stage of the Tour de l’Avenir.

The Trinity Racing road team will be managed by Kurt Bogaerts, former team principal of Sean Kelly’s An Post-Chainreaction Continental team.

“We had a very successful cyclocross season with Tom, Cameron and Abby-Mae, so it is great to launch an U23 team on the road for 2020,” Bogaerts said.

“We have an ambitious group of talented riders and I am excited to work with them over the coming season.”

The team is owned by Andrew McQuaid; an Irish cycling agent who runs Trinity Sports Management.

The company’s head of cycling, Jamie Barlow, said he was very pleased with the squad it had put together.

“We have built a hugely talented young team which includes some of the best U23 riders in the world,” he said.

“Our race programme will give the lads a solid mixture of some of the top one day and stage races in Europe, such as the Baby Giro which is a big target for us in our debut road season.

“We are also delighted to have the continued support from great partners, including Specialized, Sram, Maap and Zipp.”

As well as Irish riders Healy and Newmark and British rider Pidcock, Australian Zach Johnson is also in the line-up for 2020

The remaining riders are all British; Matt Walls, Cameron Mason, Max Walker, Sam Culverwell, Ollie Rees, Thomas Gloag and Jacques Sauvagnargues.
