Top pro rider Alex Dowsett has had his TT bike stolen in what he believes was a targeted break-in.

The Giro TT stage winner did not elaborate on why he felt it was a targeted robbery. But in a statement posted online he ruled out the possibility the break-in was opportunistic.

The five-time British TT champion's bike was stolen from his home in the Chelmsford area.

“Regretfully I need to tell you all that Chanel and I were burgled yesterday and my Katusha Canyon Speedmax was stolen,” he said.

“This wasn't an opportunity steal, or an opportunist taking advantage.”

He and his wife were “extremely rattled by the fact someone seemingly planned and executed a burglary”.
