The Irish paracycling team will be arriving into Terminal 2 of Dublin Airport tomorrow morning, Wednesday, at 7.15am from the US following another hugely successful World Championships campaign where they took home a total of four medals.
A large crowd is expected to gather to greet the team, with homecomings from previous Worlds and Paralympic Games having been very well supported affairs.
Toast of the team was Galway man Eoghan Clifford who won two gold medals in his debut Championships with the team; the Galway Bay CC man taking his time-trial and road race events.
The Irish paracycling team has punched well above its weight in recent years on both the road and track, with the championships in South Carolina simply continuing that run.
And while double Paralympic champion Mark Rohan said he was disappointed to take home only a bronze from the championships, he will undoubtedly bounce back if past performances are anything to go by.
While Clifford’s sensational gold medal debut was the highlight of the campaign, the women’s silver medal winning tandem ride in the road race by Katie-George Dunlevy and pilot Eve McCrystal was no less impressive.
Rohan brought the medal tally to four when he won bronze in the men’s H2 time trial but would just fall outside the medals in the road race. The Championships, in Greenville, ran from last Friday to yesterday.
The team’s homecoming is aboard US Airways Flight 724 from Charlotte to Dublin.
