Michael Hutchinson, the former elite Irish TT champion, has been taken to hospital after being hit by a driver in a car while he was cycling in England where he is based.
Hutchinson, a sharp commentator at Twitter, shared a photo of himself looking pretty beat up and bloody while making light of his condition.
In a reference to the rush on hand sanitizer since the coronavirus hit, he joked his crash was an extreme way of ensuring he had a supply.
"Getting hit by a car is an extreme way to get into a hospital full of precious hand sanitizer. But it worked," he said if the crash in Cambridge.
He was yet to make any further details available other than to say he was "more or less OK" and that he did not believe he had broken any bones.
A typical racing cyclist, he also replied to questions about the condition of his bike saying he had no idea what state it was in as the last time he had seen it he was sitting on it.
Hutchinson is from Northern Ireland and declared for Ireland late in his career having been one of the best TT riders on the British scene for years.
He won the Irish elite male TT crown in 2012, 2013, 2014 and also represented Ireland, in the TT, at the World Road Championships in Valkenburg, Holland, in 2012.
Before declaring for Ireland he was British TT champion three times; in 2002, 2004 and 2008.
Aside from his testing record, Hutchinson is also well known to cyclists in Ireland and Britain as a cycling journalist, appearing regularly in Cycling Weekly.
We wish him a speedy recovery.
