Paul Griffin and Cian Hogan lead the new look Tralee BC chain gang
Twenty years after its official launch, Tralee BC has remodelled itself for the coming season with a slick new kit and website, and even a new financial backer.
The Kerry club, whose best known member is former pro rider Paul Griffin, has also decided to refocus its efforts on developing junior cyclists in the hope of unearthing the next big thing in Irish cycling.
The club’s new kit includes an attractive jersey not dissimilar to the stripped-back classic design of the Leopard-Trek pro team gear from last season.
The traditional black shorts with large-font ‘Tralee’ emblazoned across the side of both thighs will make the riders very easy to pick out in the bunch.
The Manor West Hotel, which is in Tralee, has come on board as sponsor.
Tralee BC public relations officer, Pat O’Hara said all the developments within the club in recent months have given the riders a new focus.
“Our racing ethos still remains the same, however we’re also concentrating our efforts to develop a strong junior squad and hopefully discover a few rising stars,” he told stickybottle.
“We’re actively recruiting new members with that particular focus on the junior side of things. But if people are training for a triathlon or they’re doing even a bit of cycling and want to take it to the next level; we welcome everyone as members.”
The new club colours were christened last weekend when Paul Griffin won the Killorglin Christmas hamper race.
As well as the new kit, O’Hara said the riders were delighted with the club’s new website www.traleebc.com.
“We feel it reflects the renewed drive and enthusiasm within the club.”
Tralee BC’s riders and officials will soon get to indulge that “renewed enthusiasm” when they promote the first race of the year; the Lacey Cup on February 26th, starting from the Manor West Hotel.
The hotel has decided to be proactive in trying to attract cycling groups in need of accommodation during training or racing weekends in the region.
Tralee BC has worked with the hotel to develop a number of cycling friendly facilities including underground parking with individual bike cages, work stands, track pumps and a bike wash area. The kitchen will also cater for groups looking for specific meal choices for cyclists.
