Further tragedy for Eddie Dunbar team, staff member dies suddenly

Still reeling from the death of one of its riders, the Axeon Hagens Berman team of Ireland's Eddie Dunbar has lost a staff member. Press officer Sean Weide died suddenly at home in the US aged 49 years.

Having lost one of its riders after a racing crash earlier this year, Axeon Hagens Berman has been struck by further tragedy.

The team, which counts Ireland’s Eddie Dunbar as one of its riders, has lost press officer Sean Weide.

A very popular figure in cycling, where he has worked for many teams down the year, he was found dead at his home in Omaha.

His daughters issued a message on his Facebook account breaking news of his passing.

“Sean's Princesses are sad to inform you that he was found dead in his apartment today,” they said in the notice yesterday.

Sean Weide (49) had been working with Dunbar’s team this year; a squad that is still coming to terms with the death of Chad Young.

The young American died from injuries sustained in a crash at the Tour of the Gila in April.

As well as working with the American Continental-level team this year, Weide had worked with BMC Racing, among others, in the past.

A large number of pro riders took to social media to express their shock at Weide's death.

Axel Merckx, who runs Axeon Hagens Berman said: "I don't know what to say anymore. RIP buddy thanks for all you gave us. Devastated."
