So many people turned up for Gaybo Howard's wake that Stamullen streets are closed today to cater for the large crowds at the funeral. Shuttle buses are being laid on and there is no parking in the town.
In a mark of his popularity, special traffic arrangements have had to be put in place today for the funeral of Gaybo Howard.
The Stamullen RC stalwart was waked at his home in the town yesterday. People came from all over the country and the wait to meet family members inside the Howard house was an hour for much of the day.
Given the huge turn out yesterday, the Garda has warned that special traffic arrangements and road closures are in place today.
There will be no parking in the town from 11.15am as the roads will be closed. Those attending the funeral are asked to park in designated car parks established for the day outside the town.
Cars can be parked in the local GAA club, to which drivers will be directed when they reach Stamullen.
And shuttle buses will run from those temporary car park facilities into the town so people can attend the funeral.
Members of the public have been asked to take alternative routes and make other arrangements while the main street in the town is closed to facilitate the large crowds.
Gardai will have extra officers on duty in Stamullen today to best manage the crowds and redirect traffic.
