Just days after it emerged the Tour of Ulster was not going ahead next season, it now seems that a number of Ulster clubs have stepped in and are setting about the keeping the race going.

The ever popular three-day event had been scheduled to take place on the May Bank Holiday weekend as usual – May 4th to 6th next year - and it appears that will now be the cases.

The Tour of Ulster has been run by the Ulster Cycles Promotions Club. It held its AGM last week at which it was decided there was insufficient volunteer support to the run the race in a professional manner.

The organisers were experiencing specific difficulties in sourcing civilian motorbike marshals to offer support to the PSNI motorbikes normally assigned to the race.

It was announced a few days ago that because of those problems, the race would not be going ahead next year.

However, in recent days a number of clubs have come together and have reached an agreement to maintain the race on the calendar. Further talks between those clubs are planned for coming days and when we have more information we will bring it to you.
