Top Irish rider appeals for return of once-off bike stolen in Dublin

Top Irish off-road rider Conor Lavelle had a bike very similar to the one in the above photo stolen outside Trinity College last night. The Dublin teenager said the bike is the only one of its kind in Ireland.

One of the country’s brightest off-road riders is seeking the public’s assistance in tracking down a limited edition, top of the range bike that was stolen outside Trinity College, Dublin, on Monday night.

Conor Lavelle, 17, from Dublin, had locked the bike to the gates outside the college at 9.15pm.

But when he returned three hours later the bike was gone and the heavy-duty U-lock which had secured it was cut.

He quickly alerted the Gardaí in Pearse Street station, filed a report and is now hoping against hope it shows up in time for Christmas.

“It’s really sickening,” he told stickybottle.

“That was a busy time of the night last night with people everywhere so I thought it would be safe, but clearly it wasn’t.

“Where I left the bike was right beside Pearse Street Garda station so whoever stole it was a brave person.”

The bike is a black and white cyclocross machine called an Ibis Hakkalugi.

It is the only one in the country and is extremely distinctive so whoever took it will have some job trying to shift it.

As well as the foreign brand it has turquoise lizard skin bar tape.
