Tom Pidcock has shared a photo of nasty facial injuries that he sustained at the Tour de l'Avenir yesterday and which have now cost him his place on the race.
The 20-year-old was in the lead group at the conclusion of yesterday's stage 6; some 124km from Saint-Julien-Chapteuil to Privas.
However, as it looked like he may be headed for victory he crashed in the final kilometre and suffered his injuries.
While he finished the stage it has now been confirmed that he is out of the race.
"Just starting to come round," he said of his situation when sharing the photo of his injuries online.
"I don’t really remember much at the moment but I remember enough to know what Instagram is.
"And was also told I was going to win, which is a bit shit. Anyway, I’ll live to fight another day."
He had been 3rd, 5th, 2nd and 4th on stages so far and was 7th overall after yesterday's stage.
