Tom Dumoulin spotted at Amstel Gold watching action as spectator | Video

Tom Dumoulin was a spectator at Amstel Gold today, being picked out by the TV cameras as he looked on from the roadside

Tom Dumoulin may be on a break from racing at present, and might be gone from the sport for good, but he is clearly still keeping track of the pro game.

He was spotted by the TV cameras on the roadside at Amstel Gold today, watching the race as a spectator while wearing a face mask.

He appeared at the start of the race and clearly wanted to be part of the atmosphere despite being on an indefinite break from his team Jumbo Visma squad and from the peloton.

After after taking in the start of the event today he then took up a roadside position close to the Cauberg and watched on as the riders sped past with about 60km to go and just as the action was starting to really hot up.

He said pressure and expectations came with the life he had been leading as a top flight pro cyclist and he wanted to step away from that.

“I just want to do very well for very many people. I want the team to be happy with me. I want the sponsors to be happy. I want my wife and my family to be happy," he said.

“And so I want to do well for everyone, but because of that I have forgotten myself a bit in the past year. What do I want? Do I still want to be a rider? And how?"
