The selfie that cost Ciarán Power €90 at the An Post Rás. He was one of three riders sanctioned for the offence. Look at how much fun he is having!
Three Irish riders collected fines today and yesterday at the An Post Rás – for taking selfies during the race.
Sunday’s best county rider Ciarán Power (Comeragh CC) and the Waterford Racing Club pair of Shane Power and Robin Kelly both collected fines of 100CHF each (€90) for taking pictures of themselves during the race.
Power took his selfie while climbing the Connor Pass (above) yesterday and as you can clearly see, he is absolutely loving this race.
The Olympian and two-time winner of the race was with the front group before the climb and instead of trying to race up it with the best he just cantered up at his own pace.
And when his team car came up behind him, they too got in on the action and his brother Cian can be seen giving the thumbs up from the back seat of the car.
It’s been a mighty week for the team so far and Sunday’s county rider prize for Power gave the team a real boost before the thing really kicked off at all.
But they’ll probably feel a little aggrieved at this penalty for what is an extremely minor offence, we think.
Kelly and (Shane) Power were bitterly disappointed and more than a little irked by their fines but both chose not to comment.
Their selfies had not appeared online but they were spotted by commissaires taking them on the cat 2 climb of Coomakista today, Wednesday.
Commissaires communique after stage 4

This is just a little bit unfair, don't you think?
