New Pink Ribbon Tour three day cycling sportive: Cyclists now have a great opportunity to take in a new three-day sportive event in Ireland. And it's at an ideal time of year for a few days away on the bike. This would be a great event for a group getaway with your cycling buddies.
Pink Ribbon Tour three day cycling sportive unveiled
A new three-day sportive set for September looks set to offer Irish cyclists a challenge on the bike, with plenty of craic off it.
In aid of cancer research, the same Pink Ribbon charity was behind the Race the Rás event; the sportive that followed the route of the Rás each day.
This new sportive will definitely suit a larger number of riders. At three days in length, anyone who has ridden a decent one-day sportive will be ready for the new event.
The Pink Ribbon Tour takes place from September 7th to 9th. All funds raised are in aid of breast cancer research and you can follow the event on Facebook here.
With three days of cycling, and the overnights, the sportive offers a unique opportunity to see a lot of the country from the bike.
And you’ll be in an environment where the most experienced riders will be focussed on getting everyone through the days in good shape.
How enthusiastically you go at the night stages is your own business! The cycling routes are as follows:
- Stage 1: Mullingar-Tullamore-Slieve Bloom Mountains-Birr-Killaloe.
- Stage 2: Killaloe-Ennis-Lahinch-Cliffs of Moher-Kinvara.
- Stage 3: Kinvara-Loughrea-Ballinasloe-Athlone-Greenway Railtrail to Mullingar.
Details of the event are being announced now, in May, leaving three months to prepare, if you need it.
Leave no man, or woman, behind: There's nothing like hitting the roads of Ireland in a good group for cycling and banter.
And the fact the event starts and finishes in Mullingar means it’s easy access from all parts of the country.
That Mullingar start and finish also means if you’re driving with your bike and kit to the start, as most people will, you can simply leave your car parked in Mullingar for your return.
All you’ll need to concern yourself with during the three days of cycling is just that; you’re cycling.
There will be event vehicles to bring your bags along the route so they’ll be waiting for you each evening.
The organisers have also put together an accommodation package. That means everyone will be staying in the same place and you’re spared the hassle of organising accommodation yourself.
It sounds like a great opportunity for sportive cyclists to give multi-day cycling a go or for racing cyclists to get a more leisurely cycling break as the season ends.
Cassidy backs new three-day cycling sportive
One of the key men involved in getting the event on the road, double Rás winner Philip Cassidy, believes it will prove a big hit.
“It’s absolutely perfect for groups of cyclists to sign up for a few days away on the bike,” he said.
“And if people sign up on their own; this will be about welcoming everyone and getting from place to place as a group.
“Everyone will be looked after along the road. And I think the overnights will make it a different kind of event.
“You’ll really get to know a lot of cyclists. And it’s a great social trip just as much as three days of really enjoyable cycling.”
