Dublin man with 193 convictions had stolen bike in unusual circumstances

A prolific criminal with a huge number of previous convictions found a bike locked to railings that he wanted to rob in Dublin. When he couldn't prise the locked bike away, that didn't stop him. He simply made off with the mountain bike with a section of railings still chained to it. He was seen by gardai walking through the centre of Dublin and stopped.

A Dublin man who has almost 200 convictions, many of them for shoplifting, was caught with a stolen bike in very unusual circumstances, a court has been told.

Thomas O'Driscoll (35), Gloucester Diamond Park, Dublin, was spotted by gardai carrying the bike still chained to a section of railing.

He admitted he had stolen the mountain bike. However, its owner has never been located.

The incident dates back to August of last year. At the time O'Driscoll was on bail for a number of crimes.
