This dad is training with his baby on a bike seat on the back of his bike. The clip is causing a cycling safety storm online. But is he doing anything wrong?
The video below was posted by an Australian Facebook user, who sent it on to the Adelaide Cycling page expressing grave concern at what the cyclist featured is doing.
"Does anyone know this fool?" begins the message accompanying the clip.
"Driving up Portrush Road (in Adelaide - Ed) today and saw this fool with precious cargo on board. Note the baby’s helmet on the back of the bike!!
"I called out the window to him to "Put the helmet on your baby!" To which he replied: "It's not legally required" and gave me the finger!!!”
It continued: "I would hate for him to learn a lesson, he so obviously needs to learn, the hard way at the cost of this little angel.
“If you don't know the loser, please share this video until someone recognises him and sorts him out!"
It is possible – but we simply don’t know – that the rider opted to place a rimmed bonnet hat rather than bike helmet on the baby’s head to prevent sunburn to sensitive skin.

DOES ANYONE KNOW THIS FOOL?*******************************************Driving up Portrush road today and saw this fool with precious cargo on board. Note the babies helmet ON THE BACK OF THE BIKE!!!!!! I called out the window to him to "Put the helmet on your baby!" To which he replied "It's not legally required" and gave me the finger!!! He then proceeded to weave in and out of heavy traffic (I have video of that too but don't want to post video of my language at that time!) If you know this idiot, please tune him up! I would hate for him to learn a lesson, he so obviously needs to learn, the hard way at the cost of this little angel. In Ireland this rider would be breaking no laws because there is no legal requirement on anyone to wear a helmet.
So if you saw somebody doing this in Ireland, would you find it acceptable?
A lot of those commenting online are objecting to the fact that the cyclist appears to be training, or putting in a training-style effort, with a child on his bike.
The video has been shared hundreds of times online, including by the Stayin' Alive at 1.5 safety group in Ireland.
The Irish group said in a message when posting the video: "Guy in Australia looks to be chasing Strava segments. Dumb enough on a busy road but when you add a helmet-less toddler into the mix... Well, you be the judge!"
It seems to be objecting to the fact the rider is putting in a training-style effort (1) on a busy road (2) with a child on the bike and (3) about the fact the child is not wearing a helmet.
So how fast should we go when carrying children?
And if we aren’t required to wear a helmet by law, should we really be shaming the cyclist in the manner some of those sharing the video have?
Let us know in the comments section just below.
